The Townsend, Earley, Callcott, and Vann Families

The Townsend family’s largest single country of origin was England. There some Scottish, Irish, Welsh, French, and German – and probably some Viking ancestors. Our ancestors migrated to the New World over three centuries, eventually gathering to Texas in the 19th century.

The first known ancestor from the Townsend side to arrive in North America was Thomas Wootton, a surgeon on the first ships sent to colonize Jamestown in 1607. Another early Jamestown arrival was Cicely Reynolds, arriving in Jamestown in 1610. Heather and I are both descended from Cicely, making us distant cousins. Benedictus Townsend was our earliest known ancestor with the Townsend surname.
